“What’s wrong with Figaro?” Wanda said.

“I’ve always liked Theodore,” Echo said. “There was once a human president named Theodore.” Echo loved to learn about humans. Pearl shook her head. She couldn’t think about names right now. What was she going to do about the festival? Pearl decided she wouldn’t go.

“Alex is a nice name,” Kiki whispered. “It means helper.”

Pearl jumped up and spread out the bottom of her dress. “He is not a helper. Look what he did!”

Wanda gasped. “Oh no! It’s ruined.”

“Maybe we can clean it,” Shelly suggested.

“We’ve tried,” Pearl said. “It’s no use. I’m just not going to the festival!”

“But you’re the winter princess,” Wanda said.

Pearl slapped her gold tail on the woven Neptune grass carpet. “I’m not going, and there’s nothing you can say that will change my mind!”

“There might be one thing,” Echo said.
